OUR STORY
Golden Retriever American or English?
"Are English-Bred Golden Retrievers Healthier?
-
Possibly. There some evidence that, on average, English bloodlines are healthier.
-
A 1998 study found that 61.8 percent of American goldens died from cancers, such as hemangiosarcoma, lymphosarcoma, mast-cell tumors, and osteosarcoma, whereas a 2004 British Kennel Club study found that only 38.8 percent of goldens from English bloodlines were affected by cancer.
-
Studies also found that goldens from English bloodlines had an average lifespan of 12 years and 3 months whereas American goldens lived for an average of 10 years and 8 months.
-
This data does not necessarily mean that an English retriever is immune from cancer and will die only at a ripe old age.
-
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of English retrievers dying from cancer and living shorter lives than expected.
-
The health of your dog will depend on good breeding lines not on whether it is English or American, cream-colored or toffee-colored.
-
The secret to health and longevity is ultimately a combination of nature and nurture — good genes plus optimal care by responsible owners."
-
Its Important to note the term "English Cream Golden Retrievers" as a name is not recognized by any reputable kennel association or Breeder and this term is used often by Backyard Breeders and Puppy Mills.
ABOUT SUNSHINE MOUNTAIN RETRIEVERS KENNEL

We are a Arizona breeder that prides itself on choosing our breeding dogs for top health, temperament, and beauty that conforms to the breed standard. Our Golden Retriever dogs are selected from champion and service dog lines with health clearances. We will only breed dogs that pass all of these tests, so we can continue reaching to improve the breed through imposing high standards for our dogs. We breed dogs from these lines to continue a heritage of excellence in the breed.
Growing up with two “American Goldens” was a highlight of many childhood memories for me and my family. As an adult, it has been a pleasure to now show and selectively breed these beautiful Golden Retrievers. Raising our Golden Retrievers is a family endeavor that includes everyone from the youngest to the oldest. It is wonderful to make family memories with our dogs and children together. Our Golden Retrievers are first and foremost pets who live and play among our family. Our children are involved from showing our dogs to whelping the puppies. Our puppies go home to their new families very loved and well socialized. We pride ourselves in also producing multiple service dog prospects who have successfully gone through training and are now helping their new families.

GENUINE COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE
At Sunshine Mountain Retrievers Kennel, we uphold a genuine commitment to excellence in every aspect of our breeding program. Our dogs are raised in a loving and nurturing environment, ensuring that they grow into well-adjusted and exceptional companions. We prioritize health, temperament, and structure, striving to produce ethically bred Golden Retrievers that bring joy and companionship to their new families.
We back this by a 1-year life threatening genetic condition guarantee for every puppy from our kennel.
