Welcome to Our Little Witches!
A little autumn magic has arrived at Sunshine Mountain Retrievers! Cali and Payson welcomed their beautiful Golden Retriever puppies on September 7, 2026 and we’re celebrating this special pairing with our “Season of the Witch” litter.
This pairing brings together Cali’s Ukrainian heritage and Payson’s Swedish Dewmist ancestry, alongside the health testing, thoughtful raising, and individual attention that guide our breeding program. Our goal is to raise affectionate, adaptable Golden Retrievers with the foundations to become wonderful service, therapy, facility or family companions.
Our puppies grow up with age-appropriate handling, enrichment, and socialization using Puppy Culture principles. From early sensory experiences to new surfaces, household sounds, gentle grooming introductions, and positive human interaction, each stage is designed to support their developing confidence.
As they grow, we observe each puppy’s energy, curiosity, people focus, sensitivity, recovery, and ability to settle. Those observations help us match puppies with families whose lifestyles and goals suit them. Their stories are just beginning, and we look forward to sharing their progress!
Meet the Parents
Meet the Parents
Cali is our beautiful Ukrainian Golden Retriever, bringing an international pedigree and an important contribution to our breeding program.
Her OFA hip evaluation is Good, eyes ofa, heart ofa, and elbow ofa clear along with her completed genetic testing is clear for all conditions tested. These results are part of the thoughtful planning behind this litter, alongside our focus on temperament, structure, and long-term well-being.
This pairing’s reported pedigree coefficient of inbreeding is 5.44%. Together with the parents’ health information and family history, it helps us make informed breeding decisions.
We’re excited to watch Cali’s puppies grow and discover the individual qualities each one brings to this special litter.
Payson is one of the cornerstone males in our program, loved for his affectionate, people-focused nature and the close connection he forms with his family.
His pedigree includes Swedish Dewmist lines within three generations. He has also produced more than 14 puppies who have entered service work or service-dog training—a meaningful part of his contribution to our program.
Payson’s OFA hip evaluation is Good, eyes ofa, heart ofa, and elbow ofa passed. And he has completed the health and genetic testing required within our breeding program. His trainability and connection with people are qualities we value when planning for both family companions and potential working prospects.
Each puppy will develop their own temperament, and any suitability for service, therapy, or facility work will depend on individual evaluation and continued training.
Meet Our Little Witches
Meet the girls behind our “Season of the Witch” theme! Each puppy is named after a memorable witch from a beloved story, bringing a little charm and personality to this autumn litter.
Our girls are still very young, so these introductions celebrate their names rather than assign adult temperaments. As they grow, we’ll update their profiles with observations about their personalities, energy levels, and potential family matches.

How We Match Our Puppies
We believe choosing a puppy should be about much more than which puppy is the cutest or which puppy runs into someone’s lap first.
Before placement, we consider each family’s:
-
Household and family members
-
Children and other pets
-
Daily routine
-
Activity level
-
Previous dog experience
-
Training goals
-
Desired energy level
-
Desired temperament
-
Expectations for their adult Golden Retriever
We then compare those needs with what we have learned about each puppy through weeks of observation, Puppy Culture development and socialization, handling, enrichment, early training, and temperament evaluation.
Temperament testing gives us another valuable snapshot of a puppy on that particular day, but no single test defines a puppy or guarantees what that puppy will become as an adult.
Our goal isn’t simply to help you choose a puppy.
Our goal is to help you find the puppy who fits your life.
